Frequently asked

The questions you'd actually ask.

How Yonder works, how we make money, and what happens to yours.

How Yonder works

What is Yonder?

Yonder turns travel into something the people who love you can actually give. Build a detailed trip with our travel planner, share it with friends and family, and they contribute toward making it happen.

Three ways to use it: as a honeymoon registry, as a group gift for someone (a retiring colleague, a milestone birthday, a graduation), or as a planning tool for yourself when you're funding the trip on your own.

How is this different from a regular registry or GoFundMe?

Two main differences:

The trip is real. Yonder builds you a complete day-by-day itinerary with hotels, restaurants, and experiences, not a vague "honeymoon fund." Your contributors see exactly what they're funding.

Booking is built in. When the funds land in your bank account, you don't have to start from scratch figuring out where to stay or eat. Your itinerary is ready, and partner booking links for flights, hotels, experiences and dining are lined up for you to book in the order we recommend.

How long does it take to build a trip?

About two minutes. Tell us where, when, and what kind of trip you want. Yonder builds a complete itinerary you can refine in plain English: "swap the day 2 hotel for something more boutique" or "add a cooking class on day 3."

What are the three trip types?

Honeymoon registry. For couples getting married. Your wedding guests contribute toward the honeymoon instead of buying physical gifts.

Group gift. For coordinators putting together a trip for someone else: a retirement, a milestone birthday, a graduation. You collect contributions from a group, then activate the gift to send the trip to the recipient.

Plan for me. For travellers funding their own trip. No fundraising, just trip planning with Yonder, saved for when you're ready to book.

Money & fees

How does Yonder make money?

Two ways:

A platform fee on funded trips. Yonder charges a 3% platform fee, calculated on the gift amount and deducted when funds are released to the recipient.

Travel partner commissions. When you book hotels, flights, experiences, or dining through Yonder's partner links, those partners pay us a commission. This is invisible to you: you pay the same prices you'd pay anywhere else.

That's it. No subscription, no monthly fees, no hidden charges.

Are there fees for contributors?

Yes. Card processing is added to your contribution at checkout, so the full gift amount reaches the trip. You will see the exact total before you confirm, and it appears on your receipt.

Yonder's 3% platform fee is not charged to you. It comes out at the point the funds are released to the recipient.

What does the couple or recipient actually receive?

When the recipient releases the funds, they receive the amount contributed less Yonder's 3% platform fee, sent to the bank account they connect.

Your trip itinerary stays in your dashboard, with booking links for flights, hotels, experiences, and dining laid out in the order we recommend. You can book through those links (which is how we earn commission and keep the platform free) or anywhere you'd like. The funds are yours to use.

Is there a fee for self-funded trips?

No. If you're using Yonder to plan and book a trip you're paying for yourself, the platform is free. There's no fundraising, no platform fee, no subscription. We earn through partner commissions when you book, the same model as a typical travel comparison site.

How is my credit card processed?

All payments are processed by Stripe, a leading payments provider trusted by Amazon, Shopify, Lyft, and millions of other businesses worldwide. Yonder never sees or stores your full card number. Stripe handles everything.

Your card is encrypted in transit and at rest, and Stripe is PCI DSS Level 1 compliant, the strictest level of payment security certification.

What happens if the funding goal isn't reached?

You can still take the trip. Partial funding is allowed, and when you are ready to book you will see what was raised. You can cover the gap yourself, scale the trip to match what was funded, or keep collecting.

Contributors are charged at the moment they contribute, so the funds are there rather than pending a goal.

Can contributions be refunded?

Before the funds are released, yes. Email us at [email protected] and we will direct Stripe to reverse the charge back to the card you used. Refunds can only go back to the original payment method.

You will receive the gift amount you contributed. The card processing added at checkout is not returned, because it is charged by Stripe rather than by Yonder and is not returned when a charge is reversed. Yonder's 3% does not come into it, since that is only taken when funds are released.

Once the funds have been released to the recipient, we can no longer reverse the charge. At that point it is between you and the person you gave it to.

What happens to contributions before the funds are released?

Contributions are processed by Stripe and sit with Stripe until the recipient chooses to release them. Yonder is the platform layer: we direct Stripe, and Stripe holds and moves the money.

Releasing is something the recipient does, in one step, and it sends everything that has been contributed.

Trust & safety

Who owns my data?

You do. We don't sell your data, we don't share it with marketers, and we don't use it to advertise products to you. The only people we share data with are the operational partners we need to run the platform: Stripe (payments), our email provider, and the travel partners you choose to book through.

You can request a copy of your data, or delete it entirely, at any time. Email us and we'll handle it within 30 days.

Is Yonder available outside Canada?

Today Yonder is built for Canadian users: currency defaults to CAD and our travel partners support Canadian travellers booking globally. We're working on broader regional support; if you're outside Canada and want early access, drop us a note.

Is my trip private?

Your trip is only visible to people who have your share link. Yonder doesn't publicly index registries or fund pages. If you want to share your link with a small group only, you can. Anyone without the link can't find your trip.

What if I have a problem with a booking?

Bookings are made directly with the travel partner (the hotel, the airline, the experience provider). If something goes wrong with your booking, the travel partner is the first point of contact, the same as any travel booking made through any platform.

If you can't resolve it, reach out to us and we'll help you escalate or sort out a replacement booking.

Support

How do I contact Yonder?

Email us at [email protected]. We respond within one business day, usually faster.

Yonder is a small team based in Calgary, Alberta. You'll get a real response from a real person, not an autoresponder.

I have a question that isn't answered here.

Send it to [email protected]. We'd genuinely like to hear it. The questions people ask shape what we build next, and they shape this FAQ.
